Cake Walk and Auction

There will be a cake walk and auction on Saturday, September 4 at the Mill Creek Fire Hall.  Proceeds to benefit Rosie Scott who has Lung Cancer.

Arts and Crafts Festival

Jane Lew Fire Department will host an Arts and Crafts Festival, Labor Day weekend, September 3, 4 & 5.  Located 1 mile off I-79 Exit 105.  Admission is FREE.  Featuring, over 200 contemporary and Heritage artisans.  For questions or more information contact 304-269-4988.

Grocery Bingo

Leading Creek Volunteer Fire Department will host Grocery Bingo on September 6. Doors open at 6pm and the game begin at 7pm.  First packet is $15.00, additional packets are $10.00 and special games are $1.00.  There will be food available.

United Professionals meeting

On September 7 there will be a United Professionals meeting at Weston Steakhouse at 6:30pm. Guest speaker Clara Atchison will showcase Advance Directives. For information please call Maria Bray at 472-2273. 

Charity Covered Dish Dinner

There will be a charity covered dish dinner at the Buckhannon Eagles on Rt. 20 North on Friday, September 10 at 6:00pm.  Cost is $5.00 per person. Proceeds benefit the Eagles Diabetes Charity.  You do not have to be a member to attend.  Everyone is welcome. 

Pediatric Flu Clinic

There will be a pediatric flu vaccine clinic at the Upshur County Health Department on September 15.  It will be from 8am-10:30am and then 12:30pm-3:30pm.  Ages are 6 months -18 years of age.

Charity Golf Tournament

The Central WV Center for Pregnancy Care, Inc. Annual Charity Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, September 25 starting at 9am at the River bend Golf Club in Buckhannon.  All proceeds will help fund the needs of families and their babies that we support in our local communities.  To sponsor a hole, register a team, donate prizes or to get any other information on this event, please call the center at 304-473-1122 or-1-877-472-1122 Monday, Wednesday, or Friday from 10am to 3pm. 

Juried Art Exhibition submissions

The Randolph County Community Arts Center is accepting submissions to the annual Juried Art Exhibition during the Mountain State Forest Festival to be held October 6 to November 18, 2010. The event will be hosted by the RCCAC and the Seneca Trail Artists Guild.

 

Hand-delivered entries only may be submitted and works will be accepted between 1- 3 p.m. Saturday, October 2 at the Arts Center, located on the corner of Randolph Avenue and Park Street (former St. Brendan Catholic Church).

 

The exhibit is open to West Virginia residents 18 years of age or older. Students in grades K-12 are asked to please check “Student Show” on the entry form. All works must have been created in the last two years. For entry fees and complete details go to www.randolpharts.org

 

Family Planning Clinics & more

Family Planning Clinic 9/2/10, 11/18/10, 12/16/10 at 11:30am, 10/12/10 at 5:00pm and 10/26/10 at 10:00am.  Pregnancy Testing, Vaccinations and Food Handlers on Wednesdays at 8:00am -10:30am and 12:30pm -3:30pm.

STD Testing on Fridays from 9:00am -11:00am. Other Services-Threat Preparedness, Environmental Services, Tuberculosis clinic, Blood pressure checks, community Education and DNA testing

 

Red Cross Relief to Haiti

The American Red Cross is sending money, supplies and staff to Haiti to support relief efforts there after the earthquake, which caused catastrophic damage and loss of life.  There has been an outpouring of support from the public. To help, people can make an unrestricted donation to the International Response Fund at www.redcross.org or by calling 1-800-REDCROSS (1-800-733-2767). The public can also help by texting “Haiti” to 90999 to send a $10 donation to the Red Cross, through an effort backed by the U.S. State Department. Funds will go to support American Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti.     

Energy Express

Are you interested in helping kids in your community? Volunteer at Energy Express!  Energy Express is a literacy and nutrition program that makes learning fun. For the first time in years, Energy Express has a site in Randolph County at George Ward Elementary. Vaccination Clinics

The Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department will be holding vaccination clinics every Wednesday from 8am -10:30am and 12:30pm - 3:30pm with attention to parents of upcoming seventh graders to have their children vaccinated for Tetanus and Meningitis a part of a statewide initiative.  Questions call 304-472-2810.

City Kitty Snaps

Petsmart Charities & the Randolph County Humane Society have teamed up to offer “City Kitty Snaps”, a program to help spay and neuter cats for Elkins city residents who meet the income guidelines.  To see if you qualify call Kelly at the animal shelter at 636-7844 or Faye at 636-6367.  The goal is to reduce the number of unwanted cats and kittens in the Elkins area and provide a “forever” home for each and every cat.

Rock Cave Senior Citizens

Upshur County Senior Center has a satellite program for senior citizens in the Rock Cave area.  The Third Thursday of each month a covered dish luncheon will be held from 11:30am to 1:00pm at the Banks District VFD at Rock Cave.  The senior center will provide covered dishes and we ask that all seniors 60+ bring a covered dish to share.  For more information call 304-472-0528

Buckhannon clothing for those in need

Wayside Southern Baptist Church in Buckhannon is offering free clothing, shoes, coats and sometimes household items.  Come by every 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month from 9am-12pm.  Everything is FREE and anyone is welcome to anything that they, their friends or their family could use.  Please do not come to get things to resell in yard sales!!

FREE MEAL

Local churches have organized to serve a free meal each Saturday from 11AM - 1PM at Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church, 113 First Street. No questions asked, no income guidelines.

Lewis County Senior Transportation

Lewis County residents who are 60 years of age or older… Do you need transportation to medical appointments, to the grocery store or to a senior nutrition site?  Call the Senior Center at 269 - 5738, talk to Gary Wiant or Dinah Mills.

CERT team meetings

Attention all CERT and Teen CERT members, also non-members wanting to join the CERT team.  There is a meeting the second Thursday of every month at the County Commission meeting room at 7:00pm.  For information call Glenn or Judy Koon at 304-338-0867.

Alanon family group

Alanon family group meets every Tuesday at 8pm… Anonymous support group free for anyone affected by another’s drinking problem.  Upstairs at the Grace Episcopal Church in Elkins (not affiliated with the church)
